Mattison is an accomplished stylist and educator, specializing in all styling—from basic technique to editorial updos. She has taught stylists throughout the U.S., as well as abroad in Germany. As a member of the Kérastase content development team, she builds the curriculum that touches thousands of stylists around the world.

Entering the industry with a thirst for knowledge, Mattison was able to further her education through advanced training from Unite Academy, L’Oréal Professional, and world-renowned colorist, Michael Canale.

The ability to teach and inspire others became one of her top career priorities, joining the Kérastase TECH Artist team to teach in-salon classes and mentor artists. As an educator, Mattison takes the most pride in teaching stylists the tools they need to progress through a new style or technique—focusing on the art of producing luxurious, healthy, feminine hair.

As a season staple at New York Fashion Week, Mattison has worked alongside designers, such as Jason Wu, Marchesa, Jill Stuart, Libertine, The Row, Theory, Rodarte, and Monique Lhuillier. Her editorial styling has also appeared across the country in images for Sonix and the Mercedes-Benz "Together We Dream" campaign.

Q/A

Q. What is your favorite prep product for a smooth blow-dry on a guest with thicker courser hair?

A. Keratin Thermique heat protectant and Oleo-Relax hair serum. I find this the most effective combo for smooth, long lasting, shiny hair. I love the anti-humectant in the Keratin Thermique and how it fights nature’s way of ruining the perfect blow out.

Q. When speaking to a client with finer hair, which two products would you suggest for volume and hold?

A. Mousse Bouffante injected with Densifique mousse. Double the mousse, double the volume and hold!! The absolute best combo for fine haired clients.

Q. Which products would you suggest for that on-the-go girl who lets her hair air-dry with a no-fuss but still wants to put something in her hair?

A. My favorite air-dry product is Crème Magistral hair balm. The weight of it is perfect to fight frizz and it’s like using a conditioning treatment every day. And who doesn’t Love the smell?!!

Q. Is there a number one product that you feel every client should have?

A. Always the Thermique that best suits their hair. Nothing is better for your hair than protection. As far as styling goes, I can’t live without Mousse Bouffante.

Q. To combat the dry climates of winter weather, which masks would you suggest?

A. The Nutritive Magistral hair mask. Everything about the entire line is perfect to combat any type of dryness whether it be self-induced or natures doing.

Q. For the client who’s just had her first baby, is there a regimen or products that you’d encourage her to use?

A. I would recommend Initialiste hair serum to start. It will help keep the follicle stay strong and healthy so she can hold onto as much hair as possible. It will also help speed up the new growth once it starts coming back in. The entire Densifique line is also great to keep the hair feeling full and increase your hair density until it returns.
